Family confirms death of PDP chieftain Dan Orbih

A former Chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Chief Daniel Osi Orbih, has died at the age of 64.

Reports said that Orbih died on Tuesday in London, England, after attending the graduation ceremony of his daughter in the United Kingdom.

The former PDP chieftain was also a political associate of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

His family formally announced his passing in a statement signed by Francis Udukhomoi Orbih, Esq., on behalf of the Orbih family.

The family said the announcement was made “with profound sadness and a heavy heart but in total submission to the will of the Almighty God.”

Orbih was a longstanding figure in the PDP and played a significant role in the political affairs of Edo State.

As a former State chairman of the party, Orbih was involved in its organisation, political mobilisation and electoral activities in the state over the years.

He was also regarded as one of the influential PDP figures in the South-South and maintained political relationships with prominent members of the party, including Wike.

His death comes at a politically significant period, with political parties and their leaders already positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections amid ongoing realignments and internal contestations within the PDP.

The late politician is survived by his wife, Mrs. Florence Orbih; his children, Ms. Winifred Anwosiobor Orbih and Dr. Mildred Omonemi Orbih; his brothers and sisters, as well as other members of the extended family.

The family appealed to relatives, friends and well-wishers to remember them in their prayers as they come to terms with the loss.

“At this difficult time, we ask family members, friends and well-wishers to remember the entire family in their prayers as we mourn this painful loss,” the statement read.

The family said further details, including arrangements for his funeral, would be announced in due course.
