The Eze Aro of Arochukwu Kingdom, His Eminence Eze Dr Eberechukwu Oji, has emphasized that the identity of the people of Arochukwu is rooted in their distinctive language, food, the Omu Aro insignia, as well as their songs and greetings.
Speaking during the Ikeji Aro Afor Osu Dinner party of Arochukwu Kingdom held at the Civic Centre Oror on September 21, 2024, the monarch stated that there should never be identity crisis for Arochukwu indigenes, as there are numerous cultural elements to guide them.
He called on all Arochukwu sons and daughters to imbibe the culture of identity, urging parents and guardians to speak the Arochukwu dialect to their children to help them become fluent in it to avoid the extinction of the language and culture.
While reminding the people of the importance of traditions and culture, Dr Eberechukwu Oji also launched an initiative called ‘Light Up Arochukwu’ to bring illumination to every part of the Kingdom, as part of a social impact community development programme.
He stated that the idea is to illuminate the streets of Arochukwu, particularly in rural and erosion-prone areas. He also disclosed that the project will reduce unwholesome vices in the community.
Dr. Eberechukwu Oji encouraged Umu Aro to contribute to the development of the Kingdom by supporting the implementation of the solar-paneled Light Up Arochukwu project.
He also spoke about the significance of Afor Osu day, emphasizing that it is dedicated to showcasing the unique and exotic foods that the people of Arochukwu are known for, urging people to support the initiative by visiting their hometown, especially during the festive periods.
Earlier in his speech, Chairman of the Ikeji Aro dinner party, Mazi Emmanuel Kanu, appealed to Eze Eberechukwu Oji to sustain his leadership drive, to ensure that the world continues to hear about Arochukwu.
He also urged the people to keep supporting their new king.
Noting that this year’s Ikeji festival is the first to be superintended by Eze Eberechukwu Oji, he urged Umu Aro to support the monarch’s reign on the throne, in order to pave the way for infrastructural development in the kingdom.
Gracing the event were the President General (P-G) of Nzuko Aro Worldwide, Mazi Nnadozie Udensi; Mazi Ikechukwu Okafor; Chairman of the Planning Committee, Prof. Okoro Ijomah; Dr Kanu Ohuche, Secretary of Nzuko Aro; P-G of Okennachi Kindred, Mazi Udo Chijioke; Dr Azubuike Okoro, Prof. Zulu Ofoelue, and Mazi Aliche, among others.
