…As voting ends
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Saturday, arrested a suspected vote-buyer in Ekiti State as the governorship election got underway.
Reports say EFCC operatives apprehended the suspect with a bag of cash as he was “inducing voters.”
The suspect, said to be an agent of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), was taken into custody at Ola Oluwa Grammar School on Ilawe Road, Ado Ekiti.
Both the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Police had warned voters ahead of the election not to get involved in either vote buying of selling.
INEC, in particular, had warned of strict enforcement of rules against cash inducement of voters.
The Commission made this known while unveiling its partnership with anti-graft agencies, the EFCC and the ICPC, on Friday.
Meanwhile, INEC has commenced sorting and counting of ballots as voting just ended in the Ekiti governorship election.
Voting has ended in most of the 177 polling units across all the local government areas of the State.
At Ward 08, Units 04 and 05, Odo Aremu Area of Ado-Ekiti, INEC ad-hoc officials started the crossing of unused ballot papers at 2:35p.m while sorting and counting commenced immediately.
The situation was the same at Unit 03, Ward 09 situated at Adebayo Area of Ado Ekiti.
