Dubois accepts rematch with Anthony Joshua for heavyweight belt

Daniel Dubois delivered a career-defining performance last month, securing his place among boxing’s elite by defeating Anthony Joshua and solidifying his status as a world heavyweight champion.

Dubois, known as ‘DDD’, overpowered Joshua in a dominant display, knocking him down three times before delivering a decisive knockout in the fifth round. The victory marked Dubois’ first successful defence of the IBF heavyweight title, sparking discussions about a potential rematch between the two British heavyweights.

In an interview with Seconds Out, Dubois expressed his openness to facing Joshua again, echoing recent comments from his promoter – Frank Warren – who described a second bout as “a no-brainer.”

“If Joshua wants the rematch, it will happen,” Dubois said. “We’re making plans for what’s next, and I’ve heard AJ wants it. I was the better man on the night, but there’s no disrespect. It was a great fight, and if we do it again, it’ll be even bigger.”

Dubois, 27, also outlined his ultimate goal of unifying the heavyweight division by collecting all the major belts. However, with the other titles currently tied up in the anticipated rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury, a second fight with Joshua appears to be the most likely next step.

“I’d love to become the undisputed champion and collect all the belts,” Dubois said. “I’ve fought some of the best in the world, and the AJ rematch feels like a positive move. The first fight was exciting, and I know I can be even better the second time around.”

Dubois hinted at what fans might expect in a rematch, emphasizing that he plans to be sharper and more focused. “Without giving too much away, I think I’d be more up for it, more controlled, with more speed,” he said. “AJ will bring it again, but I feel like it’s my time now.”

Frank Warren has confirmed that Dubois will return to the ring in February, with a decision on the Joshua rematch expected soon. All eyes are now on Joshua’s team to see whether the former champion will opt to try to reclaim his title.
