The former Hollywood Hills home of the late music icon, Dolly Parton, has hit the market for the first time in two decades.
The Tennessee-born singer-songwriter, actress and businesswoman bought the residence in 1985 with her late husband, Carl Dean.
The Los Angeles home is believed to be Parton’s first residence outside of her hometown of Locust Ridge and her modest red-brick marital home in Antioch, both in Tennessee.
The couple, who were married for nearly 60 years until Dean’s death in March 2025, paid US$750,000 for the property, which is US$2.3 million ($3.2 million) today.
Known as the Dolly Parton house, the Hollywood Hills property hasn’t been on the market for 25 years and has undergone modern updates over the years.
“When I first leased the house about 2002, it looked like a shrine,” Edward Tinney of Nourmand & Associates told Mansion Global.
Tinney said the home had purple carpet and pink walls and wig stands in the second bedroom, which was attached to the primary bedroom as a dressing room.
He added that between 1990 and 2001, the home remained unchanged.
In 2009, the property was rebuilt into a four-bedroom, six-bathroom home, according to the listing.
It features walls of glass in the living room and dining room that open to a terrace and access to the home’s pool and spa.
The property also has a library/media room with surround sound, a family room and a kitchen overlooking the city view.
The primary suite has a coffee bar, a fireplace, two bathrooms, a space for a walk-in closet and private deck.
Tinney noted he has always mentioned Parton’s ownership of the home, which in the past didn’t “generate much interest”.
Parton sold the home in 1990 for US$1.2 million, which is about US$3 million ($4.3 million) today, to return to Tennessee where she bought a private estate outside of Nashville.
Parton died in August this year after a brief battle with cancer, aged 80.
Since her death, Tinney said there has been increased interest in the home.
“Her recent, unfortunate death has been a significant factor in interest now,” he said.
“Our first open house this week was very busy, and people seem to really have focused on her ownership. It is like night and day.”
Parton released 49 solo albums and sold more than 100 million records worldwide during her nearly 60-year career.
The property is on the market for $US7.95 million ($11.3million) with Tinney and Kurt Rappaport of Westside Estate Agency.
