- Sanusi, others on UNIZIK list for honorary doctorate degrees
The deposed Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sansu II, has been whisked off the State amid tight security.
Before being taken away by security personnel of the DSS, police and military, Sanusi was put under house arrest with the palace sealed off by the armed operatives.
Already, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is set to announce the appointment of a new emir, following the removal of the Emir earlier today.
There were hints that the governor may announce a new emir after the State Security Council meeting.
Also, it was being speculated that the governor might announce Emir of Bichi, Aminu Ado Bayero to replace the deposed Sanusi. Aminu Ado Bayero, one of the Sons of late Emir Ado Bayero, might be crowned the 16th Fulani Emir of Kano.
Ganduje announced the removal of Sanusi, a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) over alleged disrespect for constituted authorities, in violation of Part 3, Section 13 of the Kano State Emirate Law 2019.
Meanwhile, and apparently unknown to them, the authorities of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, announced earlier on Monday a list of Nigerians to be conferred with honorary doctorate degrees during the varsity’s convocation ceremony scheduled to hold between March 9 and March 13.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Charles Esimone, disclosed this on Monday.
On the list announced by the VC are the now deposed Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi; and the Chairman of INNOSON Motors, Chief Innocent Chukwuma, amongst others.
Esimone said the selected personalities would be conferred with honorary doctorate degrees for their contributions to education and society.
Esimone said a total of 2, 821persons would receive post-graduate honours including 339 doctorate degrees while 6, 750 would be awarded their degrees at the ceremony.
