The Delta StatePolice Command has arrested two suspected vandals and recovered stolen electric cables during an operation targeting the destruction of public infrastructure.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the suspects, identified as Osakwe Sunday, 28, and Ekene Obocha, 34, were arrested on June 25, 2026, after operatives of the Kwale Police Station, working with members of a local vigilante group, acted on credible intelligence that some individuals were dismantling and stealing electric cables along the Ibabu–Ugiliamai Road.
Edafe said the police team mobilised to the area at about 10:30 a.m., where the suspects allegedly attempted to flee on sighting the operatives. One of them sustained injuries during the operation and is receiving treatment at a hospital, while the other remains in police custody.
The recovered vandalised electric cables have been taken into police custody as exhibits for further investigation.
Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, warned criminals against targeting government infrastructure and other public assets, saying the command would continue to identify, arrest and prosecute offenders.
He also urged residents to support the police by providing timely and credible information that would help prevent crime and protect public property.
The statement reads, “The Delta State Police Command has recorded another significant breakthrough in its sustained efforts to protect critical national infrastructure with the arrest of two suspected electric cable vandals and the recovery of vandalised electric cables in Delta State.
“On 25 June 2026, at about 1030hrs, operatives of Kwale Police station in a combined effort with members of the vigilante group, acting on credible intelligence that suspected vandals were dismantling and stealing electric cables along the Ibabu–Ugiliamai Road, swiftly mobilised to the scene. Upon sighting the team, the suspects attempted to evade arrest. During the ensuing operation, one of the suspects sustained injury and is presently receiving treatment at the hospital, while one of the suspects is in custody.The suspects were later identified as Osakwe Sunday (28yrs) and Ekene Obocha (34yrs). The vandalised electric cables has been recovered as exhibits.
“The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, psc, acipm, mnips, warned criminal elements to desist from vandalising government critical infrastructure and other public assets, stressing that the command will not relent in its efforts to identify, arrest, and prosecute offenders.
