The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd), has said that all eyes are on security operatives, stressing that they have a responsibility to secure Nigeria and must not allow bandits to thrive.
Musa gave the charge on Wednesday evening while addressing troops of Operation Fasan Yama at the Joint Task Force Headquarters, Northwest, in Gusau, Zamfara State. He said Nigerians are looking up to security operatives to secure the country.
“We have no other country; we must make our country peaceful,” he stated.
He emphasised that securing the nation is a mandate given by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and commended the efforts of the troops.
“Operation Fasan Yama has been operating successfully. The President has commended your efforts and sacrifices and reminded you that there is still more to be done. You have been achieving results,” he said.
According to him, troops can only succeed if criminal elements and those who do not mean well for the country are defeated, adding that the troops are capable of accomplishing the task.
He maintained that the President is doing everything possible to provide the necessary equipment to ensure the success of the operations.
“Remember, as troops, your lives are at stake. Once you are deployed, you have the mandate to strike. Do not wait for an order. You have already been trained on when to fire. Once deployed, you do not need further orders,” he said.
He further stressed that the welfare and well-being of troops remain paramount.
“I do not want any security personnel to be killed; I want them alive. Be professional in your conduct. Bandits and terrorists do not mean well for our country. We must not allow them to thrive,” he warned.
While at the Government House in Gusau, Zamfara State, the Defence Minister commissioned Armoured Personnel Carriers and new armoury facilities purchased by the Zamfara State Government.
“Let me begin by stating that the protection of lives and property rises above party lines, political affiliations, or differences. It is both a constitutional responsibility and a solemn moral obligation owed to every Nigerian citizen,” he said.
He added that it takes courage and firm conviction for subnational leadership to commit substantial resources towards strengthening public safety amid competing developmental priorities and fiscal pressures.
According to him, the commissioning of the assets sends a strong message to criminal elements that the state is resolute in protecting its communities and safeguarding lawful activities.
It also signals to citizens that their safety and peace of mind remain central to governance at every level.
