Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja, on Monday, varied the bail conditions as earlier granted some #EndBadGovernance protesters in the country.
The judge, on September 11 granted bail to 10 protesters for a combined sum of N100 million with stringent conditions.
In Monday’s proceeding, Justice Nwite reduced the amount from N10 million to N5 million each.
This variation followed an appeal by lawyers for five defendants who were unable to meet the original bail conditions.
The new conditions also require the defendants to provide a surety, specifically a close relative.
The defendants – Michael Adaramoye aka Lenin, Adeyemi Abayomi, Suleiman Yakubu, Comrade Opaluwa Simon, Angel Innocent, Buhari Lawal, Mosiu Sadiq, Bashir Bello, Nurudeen Khamis, and Abduldalam Zubair — were arraigned by the Inspector-General of Police on a six- count charge of treason, conspiracy to commit a felony, inciting mutiny, and attempting to destabilise Nigeria.
They were accused of attempting to force their way into the seat of power, burning down a police station, and injuring officers.
The IGP also claimed the defendants incited the public against the Federal government and destroyed properties, including a police station, the high court complex, and National Communications Commission (NCC) facilities.
The offences, according to the prosecution, were punishable under section 97 of the Penal Code.
