Court re-affirms Ifeanyi Ubah’s sack from Senate

  •  ‘I have sought stay of execution’

A Federal Hgh Court sitting in Abuja has ordered INEC to withdraw the Certificate of Return issued Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.

Ubah ran and won the Anambra South senatorial seat on the platform of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) during the 2019 general elections.

However, on April 11, 2019, the court nullified his victory after evidence came to light that Ubah ran using a forged National Examination Council (NECO) certificate.

The court, in its ruling, declared Obinna Uzoh of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who came in second in the polls, the winner. It also directed that Uzor be issued a Certificate of Return.

Ubah, thereafter, filed a stay of execution. His counsel argued that neither he nor his client were served with the court processes or given hearing notice.

On December 4, 2019, the court ordered all the parties to maintain the status-quo.

The presiding judge, Justice Bello Kawu, in his ruling, Friday, held that Ubah’s application for a dismissal of the court’s judgment lacks merit.
