Cherubim & Seraphim Church in leadership succession turmoil

Three weeks after the passing of His Grace, Baba Aladura Emmanuel Alogbo, the Cherubim and Seraphim Church Movement Worldwide is at war with itself over who wears the mantle next.

Prophet Alogbo died peacefully in his Lagos home on July 30, 2026. He was 93. The prayers had barely ended when the fight for succession began.

And now, two camps have emerged. Two claims. Two “Acting Baba Aladura.”

The Board vs The Constitution

In a swift move, they opted for election and announced Most Senior Special Apostle Gabriel Kassim as Acting Baba Aladura.

On the other side, a furious bloc of church elders says the BoT tore the rulebook apart.

In a strongly worded letter dated August 20, 2026, the concerned members declared the BoT’s announcement “null, void, and of no effect.”

Their weapon? The C&S Constitution

“According to the Constitution of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church, the office of Baba Aladura is filled by hierarchical succession,” the letter reads.

“Upon the transition to glory of the late Baba Aladura, His Grace Emmanuel Alogbo, the mantle rightly and constitutionally devolves to the next in line of authority, who is Most Senior Special Apostle Prophet Timothy Iranloye Adewoye.”

To them, this was never supposed to be a contest. It was supposed to be order.

“This provision was put in place to preserve order, unity, and continuity in the Movement founded by our fathers.”

Two thrones, one Church

The dissenting members have gone ahead to “affirm and present” Prophet Timothy Iranloye Adewoye as the “authentic and constitutionally recognised Acting Baba Aladura,” effective August 20, 2026.

They have called on all Districts, Branches and Model Branches worldwide to pledge him “full support, prayers, and allegiance.”

They also issued a warning to the public, media and government: recognize only communications from Adewoye’s office going forward.

And to their own people: “Remain calm, prayerful, and law-abiding. The Church is bigger than any individual or Board of Trustees. Any action that seeks to cause division or confusion is contrary to the spirit of Cherubim and Seraphim.”

A house divided

For a church built on prophecy, prayer, and unity, the timing could not be worse.

What started as mourning has quickly turned into a constitutional crisis — with Kassim backed by the BoT, and Adewoye backed by those citing “hierarchical succession.”

As of press time, both men are being addressed as “Acting Baba Aladura” by different factions within the fold.

The question now hanging over every C&S altar worldwide: Who truly holds the staff?

The BoT says election.
The elders say succession.
The congregation is waiting.
