A driver – Kehinde Olayemi, 48 – employed by Jubilee Life Mortgage Bank Plc, has been arrested and charged with stealing his employer’s property worth N2,590,000.
The Lagos State Police Command, Bar Beach Division, apprehended Olayemi after he allegedly entered his employer’s warehouse and stole two Panasonic split air conditioners valued at N200,000, a change-over switch worth N390,000, and two 800-amp switch breakers valued at N2,000,000.
According to the police, Olayemi sold the stolen items, unaware that his actions had been captured on CCTV cameras.
The theft was discovered when the bank’s management was ready to use the missing items. A review of the CCTV footage by the Chief Security Officer (CSO) revealed the driver’s involvement.
Acting on a distress call from the CSO, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Bar Beach Division, CSP Grace Ebruaja, dispatched officers to apprehend Olayemi.
Following an investigation led by Inspector Patience Onyeche, the suspect, a resident of Femi Williams Street, Ota, Ogun State, was arraigned before the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos Island, on a single count of stealing.
Police prosecutor Ishola Samuel informed the court that the alleged crime occurred on October 4 and December 24, 2024, at the bank’s premises on Adeola Odeku Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The offence is said to contravene Section 287(7) of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty. Magistrate A.A. Paul granted him bail and adjourned the case to January 27, 2025, for mention.
Pending the fulfillment of his bail conditions, Olayemi has been remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre.
