Buhari writes Senate, House of Reps indicates readiness to resume work

Senate President, Dr.Bukola Saraki, has acknowledged receipt of President Muhammadu Buhari’s resumption letter to the National Assembly.

Saraki made this known via his twitter handle on Monday.

He said:“I have received a letter from President Muhammadu Buhari informing the Senate that he has returned to the country.

“I have also acknowledged the letter.” The letter will be read in plenary when the National Assembly resumes from its recess on September 19.

President Muhammadu Buhari had written to the National Assembly informing it of his medical trip to London, which he commenced on May 7. He had transmitted power to the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo to act in his absence. He returned to Nigeria on August 19, amidst celebrations by residents of Abuja and major cities in the country.

Also on Monday, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, acknowledged receipt of the communication from President Muhammadu Buhari notifying the House of Representatives of his resumption of duty.

The letter was delivered to the office of the Speaker by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, Suleiman Sumaila, on Monday.

Buhari returned to Nigeria on Saturday after 103 days in London for medical treatment. With the letter, he officially takes over from his deputy, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, who has been acting president since Buhari was abroad.
