President Muhammadu Buhari has returned to Nigeria from New York City in the US, after making a stopover in London.
The Presidential jet touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Monday night.
Buhari left the country on September 17 to attend the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Before going on the trip, the Presidency had revealed that the President would travel through London on his way back from New York.
Although the reason for the stopover was not mad eknown, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, had said that the trip would not exceed Monday.
Meanwhile, the President, Vice President Yemi Osibanjo, All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, John Odigie Oyegun and other top shots of the party are expected to participate in the party’s mega rally in Abia State.
The State Publicity Secretary of the party, Comrade Benedict Godson told newsmen on Monday in Umuahia after the inauguration of the party’s Contact, Mobilization/Rally Committee that the event would hold in the state capital Umuahia in October.
Godson said the proposed mega rally was to present new members of the party including former Governor of the state, Dr. Orji Kalu; immediate past President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Chidi Onyeukwu Ajaegbu; CEO of Masters Energy and former Abia PDP governorship aspirant in 2015 election, Dr. Sampson Uche Ogah; MD of defunct Bourdex Telecommunication and Abia North Senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA), Chief David Ogba Onuoha; MD of defunct Hallmark Bank and brother of the former Senate President (Adolphus Wabara), Mark Wabara among other Abia political big weights who will be presented to the public at the event.
According to Godson, the rally is part of the party’s efforts to rally more supporter ahead of the 2019 general elections.
He said the party will not zone its governorship position in Abia, stressing that it will, through an open and credible primaries would present candidates who are willing to serve Abians and deliver dividend of democracy to all parts of the state.
“A governor is like a father with many children. He loves the children equally and shares his wealth to them without favouring anyone. APC will produce a governor and leaders that have the interest of their subjects at heart.
“We are not going to promote godfatherism, but to present candidates based on their acceptability by the people who will elect them through a credible primary,” he said.
Chairman of the committee and deputy chairman of the party, Chief Ogumka Adiele promised that they will put in their best in discharging the assignment given to them by the party.
Other members of the committee including Hon Acho Obioma, former House of Rep member and chairman Akoka Federal College of Education Governing Board Council, Chief Oxford Wabara pledged to work with the committee to produce a positive result.
