Army confirms tragic route march accident in Lagos

The Nigerian Army has confirmed a tragic accident involving a suspected drunk driver who crashed into a unit of soldiers during their route march in Lagos.

The incident involved troops of 81 Division of the Nigerian Army.

Reports said that a car driven by a suspected drunk driver, rammed into the soldiers around the Myoung Barracks Army Sports Camp in Lagos, during their training exercise.

Unconfirmed reports said some soldiers were crushed to death, while others sustained injuries.

The Division’s spokesman, Lt.-Col. Olabisi Ayeni, confirmed the incident on Friday.

According to him, the incident is confirmed, but investigation is ongoing to determine if there were ulterior motives behind the accident.

“Full details will come later,” Ayeni said.
