More crisis has hit the ruling All Progressives Congress leaving its top hierarchy in apparent disarray.
The party’s Deputy National Secretary, Hon. Victor Giadom, in the midst of the leadership confusion in the party, has declared himself acting National Chairman.
His claim came few hours after the National Working Committee (NWC) announced Senator Abiola Ajimobi, National Deputy Chairman South to take over leadership of the party following affirmation of the suspension of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole by an Appeal Court in Abuja on Tuesday.
Giadom said he assumed office based on a March 16, 2020 Abuja High Court order in suit no FCT/HC/M/6447/2020, which empowers him to act as the national chairman of the party.
During a press conference at the National Secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday, Giadom took the first decisive action, by cancelling the decisions of the screening and appeal committees on Edo State Governorship election.
He thus directed all the six aspirants to the party’s ticket for Edo State Governorship to report for fresh screening at the party’s Secretariat on Wednesday and Thursday.
He also appointed the Deputy National organising Secretary, Hon. Muhammad Sani Ibrahim to the position of National Organising Secretary.
But the party’s National Vice-Chairman (North), Salihu Mustapha, also ordered the security agents not to entertain any media briefing from the opposition camp.
Also, majority of the members of the National Working Committee (NWC) have dismissed the claim by Hon Giadom as the Acting National Chairman.
Deputy National Chairman, South-South, Mr. Hiliard Ettah, said this barely an hour after Giadom claimed assumption of office as the National Chairman of the party.
Hilliard said “Victor Giadom has no such legal authority to emerge Acting Chairman of the party because he has long resigned his membership of the National Working Committee to seek election as deputy governor in Rivers State.”
