APC Chair: Oshiomhole fights back, begs court to save his job

  • Stakeholders seek his immediate replacement

Barely hours after an FCT Court removed him from office as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has taken decisive steps to retain his job. He has promptly filed an appeal against the court ruling.

The court ruling was given by Justice Danlami Senchi, who also ordered Oshiomhole to stop parading himself as the chairman of the party pending the determination of the substantive suit, which is seeking his perpetual removal as the APC chairman.

But the former labour leader has now proceeded to the court of appeal to also seek a stay of execution of that judgement.

Among those he joined as defendants are Mohammed Adamu, Inspector-General of Police, as well as the Department of State Services (DSS).

The police had earlier taken over the APC headquarters in Abuja, even as the party said it will comply with the court order suspending Oshiomhole.

Meanwhile, stakeholders of the APC, under the auspices of Governors’ Mandate Network, has asked governors elected on the platform of the ruling party to immediately find a worthy replacement for Oshiomhole.

The Chairman of the group, Mr. Earl Osaro Onaiwu, said  that the governors should quickly leverage the opportunity provided by the High Court to salvage the party from impending ruin.

Onaiwu said the APC governors should urgently nominate a replacement for Oshiomhole, at least in an acting capacity.

“The truth is that the governors are the real custodians of the party being very close to all the stakeholders at the grassroots, hence they cannot afford to be laid back when things seem not to be working well in their party.

“The Abuja Court has provided them the leeway to restructure and refocus their party away from the brigandage promoted by Oshiomhole,” he said.
