Angry constituents ruffle Reps member over alleged poor performance

A video has surfaced on social media showing a member of the House of Representatives (name not available) from Zamfara State being beaten by an angry crowd in Dansadau town.

The viral video shows the lawmaker being dragged, slapped, spat on, and repeatedly beaten by people angry about his ‘poor performance’ since taking office.

The video also shows security officers struggling to protect him as he was pulled in different directions.

The crowd can be heard chanting ‘bamayi,’ a Hausa word that means rejection or lack of support, as they showed their anger toward the representative.

People in the area said the attack happened because of long-standing grievances. They claimed the lawmaker had abandoned the community after winning the election.

They also said their repeated requests for development, empowerment programs, and the lawmaker’s presence in the constituency were ignored.

Security personnel eventually managed to stop the attackers and quickly put the shaken lawmaker into a waiting vehicle before taking him away.

At the time of this report, the lawmaker’s identity has not been officially confirmed. Neither the Nigeria Police Force nor the House of Representatives has released a formal statement about the incident.
