The Anambra government says its audit of the State’s finances under Peter Obi is not an indictment of the former governor.
The Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation, Law Mefor, made the clarification while speaking on 90MinutesAfrica podcast with Rudolf Okonkwo.
Mefor said Governor Chukwuma Soludo has no personal rift with Obi, stressing that both men are pursuing their separate political interests.
“There is no rift between Governor Soludo and Peter Obi. They are both in politics, and they have their interests to defend. The intention of the Anambra State Government is not to indict Peter Obi. Peter Obi did well as governor,” he said.
He explained that the State only sought to set the records straight over Obi’s claim that he left no debts and left N12.13 billion in the ecological fund domiciled at First Bank, UNIZIK branch, Awka.
According to Mefor, the government wrote to the bank for statements on the account but could not trace the said amount.
He maintained that the exercise was about financial clarity and not politics.
The remarks appear to douse tensions after the Soludo administration released documents alleging unpaid arrears inherited from Obi’s tenure.
