Anambra CP orders probe into Onitsha Head-Bridge shooting

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police (CP), Nnanna Ama, has ordered a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the gunshot incident at the Bridge Head area of Onitsha.

The incident occurred during a confrontation arising from an attempted arrest after the suspects allegedly resisted arrest, resulting in gunshot injuries.

Addressing the crowd in Onitsha on Wednesday, CP Ama said the immediate priority of the Command was the recovery of those injured.

He subsequently visited the victims at the hospital, where he assured them of the police command’s support and pledged to personally ensure that their medical expenses are covered.

The commissioner directed investigators to establish the facts surrounding the incident, particularly the circumstances that led to the discharge of the firearm.

He stressed that appropriate action would be taken based on the outcome of the investigation, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, respect for human life and the rule of law.

CP Ama also appealed for calm, urging residents and other members of the public to remain peaceful and allow the investigation to run its course.

Meanwhile, the situation around the Head Bridge area of Onitsha has been de-escalated, with the police command confirming that the free flow of vehicular and human movement has been restored.
