The operatives of Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested a 42-year-old man, Victor Okon, for allegedly killing his 38-year-old wife, Victoria Okoh, at their residence in the Oron area of the State.

Spokesperson for command, DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, March 10, 2025.

John said the operatives of the command swiftly responded to a distress call from concerned residents at 05:20am about the incident.

“On arrival at the scene, the officers discovered the mutilated body of the deceased lying outside the house she shared with her husband,” John stated.

He noted that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly attacked his wife with a machete over accusations of infidelity.

The police spokesperson said further reports indicated that the suspect hid in the ceiling of the house, in an attempt to evade arrest.

John added that police operatives, however, went into the building and apprehended the suspect

“The machete used in committing the crime was recovered by the police and photographs of the scene were taken for investigation purposes,” John said.

He said the remains of the deceased have been deposited at the General Hospital Morgue for an autopsy, adding that the suspect would be charged to court after investigation.

John quoted the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, as condemning the act and assuring the public that justice would be served on the matter.

Azare warned against all forms of domestic violence and called on residents to seek lawful means of resolving disputes rather than resorting to violence.

The police commissioner pledged the commitment of the command towards ensuring the safety of citizens.

He also urged the members of the public to promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police formation in Akwa Ibom State.
