Again, Abia COVID-19 Task Force visits Arochukwu LGA

…To evaluate security at boundaries with Akwa Ibom, Cross River

For the second time in one week, the Abia State Task Force for Abia North on COVID-19 visited Arochukwu Local Government Area on Thursday to monitor compliance with the government’s lockdown directives.

Earlier on April 4, the Commissioner for Homeland Security, Prince Okoli on his first visit, was led by the Transition Committee Chairman for Arochukwu council, Mazi Emmanuel Jideofor Kanu, on a tour of the boundary flanks of Abia State with Akwa Ibom and Cross River states. Subsequently, the government deployed more security personnel to man the boundary areas.

Led on Thursday visit by Prince Okoli, the team comprised the Commissioner for Special Projects, Mr. J. J Okoro, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Homeland Security and other security personnel.

The team, again, visited the Abia State boundary flanks with Akwa Ibom and Cross River states.

At the end of the tour, the team commended the TC Chairman, and expressed satisfaction with the level of enforcement of the restriction of movements in and out of the State.

Responding, the Transition Committee Chairman, Mazi Kanu, thanked the team for responding swiftly to issues of the council.

Kanu particularly thanked Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for his efforts in handling the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, and urged him to sustain the tempo. He gave the assurance that the council is working hard to secure the boundary areas.

The Minority Whip/member representing Arochukwu State Constituency in the Abia House of Assembly, Hon. Mike Ukoha, thanked the team for the importance attached to Arochukwu in promoting the preventive measures against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The lawmaker expressed readiness to assist in any way possible to ensure compliance with the government’s lock down directives.

Indeed Abia State government has been particular about securing its boundary flanks with neighboring states to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

It has adopted a number of measures to forestall the entry of the disease, thus far keeping the residents safe.

Part of it has been the restriction of movements within the State, and entry from any of its flanks. The first restriction was for seven days, which has now been extended by another week.

Regarding the coronavirus pandemic, Arochukwu is reportedly strategic to the State government because it shares boundaries on its East and West flanks by Akwa Ibom (which has officially recorded 5 cases of the coronavirus) and Cross River states respectively.
