Afenifere expresses concern over Kachikwu’s allegations against Baru

Notable Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, has added its voice to the latest scandal at the topmost level of Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

There is a festering rift between the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu and the Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, (NNPC), Dr. Maikanti Baru.

Kachiku had in a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, accused Baru of gross insubordination and failure to follow due process in his management style among other infractions.

The Minister had also expressed disappointment that he had no express access to the president to discuss the development.

But the Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Mr. Yinka Odumakin said if Kachikwu’s claims are true, then the “architecture of corruption is intact” despite the ongoing fight against corrupt by the Buhari administration.

“The allegations in Kachikwu’s letters, if they are true, confirm our position that the architecture of corruption is intact in spite of our anti-corruption crusade. This scandal reveals the whole truth,” Vanguard Newspaper  quoted Odumakin as saying.
