- As Comedian AY pens emotional dirge
Actress Nancy Isime has shared emotional memories of her late colleague Alex Ekubo during his service of songs.
Speaking at the event, Isime described Ekubo as a lively and playful person who always made people laugh.
She said, “And one thing nobody has really mentioned here is his bad mouth. Alex had bad mouth”.
She recalled his constant teasing and said he never missed a chance to joke with those around him.
She remembered how he gave friends funny nicknames, including the one he had for her.
“He used to call me old 20 naira, the oldest. Even when I started to make money and look new, he said no, you are still old 20 naira”, she added.
Isime described his humour as fearless and unmatched, adding that once a camera was on him, he would always find a way to tease someone, and no one could outdo him in banter.
“Once you put a camera on his face, you must make sure he yabs you. And you can never out yab Alex. Never.”
Isime also highlighted his generosity, stating that had the biggest heart and loved to give.
“He had the biggest heart. He loved to give. Even if the only thing he could give you is the meat in his food, he will give it to you,” adding that he would still joke about it afterward.
Isime praised Ekubo’s impact on Nollywood, saying he was a major part of the industry and dominated with performances audiences always looked forward to.
“Alex was a big part of Nollywood. He came and he dominated. His performances are something to always look forward to”, she said.
