Abia ex-Speaker dumps PDP, aligns with APC

Former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Agwu U. Agwu, has reportedly dumped his former party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

While Agwu who was Speaker of the State House of Assembly between 2007/10 was yet to be reached for comments on reasons for his defection, he was said to have formalized his membership with the APC at the weekend.

In a telephone chat however with the Publicity Secretary of the APC Abia State chapter, Comrade Benedict Godson on Monday confirmed that Agwu has joined the party.

According to Godson, the former speaker according to the constitution of the party has registered in his ward (Ozu Abam) in Arochukwu Local Government Area and would soon be presented to the State.

Godson who recalled how that party labored to convince Abians to join the party despite the challenges they faced from then government in power said that he is happy that their efforts have started yielding fruits.

Describing the new entrant as a plus to the strength of the party in the State and Abia North in particular, Godson disclosed that more people from the PDP and other parties in the state would be joining the party before the end of the year.

“Abians, as far as I’m concerned, have rejected PDP, because they have nothing to show for in the past 11 years that they have been in power.

“I am happy that Abians are embracing the message of peace which APC brought to them. Thank God that they have realized that APC is the party that will bring about in the state, the needed change which majority of Abians have been yearning for.

“Many PDP members I can tell you are on their way coming into the party. They are tired of doing things the old way. They are only buying time and will soon join the party before December I can assure you.

“You are aware that we have the likes of former governor Orji Kalu, Senator Nkechi Nwaogu, Rt. Hon Stanley Ohajuruka, Hon. Acho Obioma, Uche Sampson Ogah and others. So the party is growing in leaps and bounds in the state which makes us the party to beat in 2019.

“APC will present credible, experienced and candidates with proven records in all their endeavours; people that has electoral values for Abians to make their choices come 2019.

“Rt. Hon. Agwu. U. Agwu has seen the light and has joined the moving train, which is APC in Abia state.

“He has registered in his ward at Ozu Abam ward 2 in Arochukwu Local Government Area of the State. I can assure you that he has seen the light.

“Like I tell everybody, political party is like a church. APC is opened for everybody. I can tell you that the former Speaker is now a member of APC. We welcome him with open hands. We assure him of a level playing ground.”
