Abductors of hundreds of schoolboys from the Government Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State, have contacted the State government, to possibly demand for ransom in order to release the students.
Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, disclosed this on Monday when he visited President Muhammadu Buhari in his Daura hometown where he is currently holidaying.
Masari had revealed on Sunday that 333 students were still missing after unknown gunmen attacked the all-boys school.
Buhari’s media assistant, Garba Shehu, claimed on Monday that the Katsina governor assured the president that steady progress was being made to ensure the safe rescue of the schoolboys.
“We are making progress and the outlook is positive,’’ Shehu quoted Masari as telling journalists after an hour meeting with Buhari.
According to the presidential aide, Governor Masari told Buhari that security agencies had located the schoolboys where they were being kept by their abductors.
The governor visited the president in company with his deputy, Manir Yakubu.
Shehu had withdrawn his statement that only 10 schoolboys were abducted after coming under heavy criticisms from Nigerians on social media. The presidential aide had contradicted Governor Masari who confirmed that 333 of the boys were still missing as of Sunday.
His principal, President Buhari, was also criticized for failing to visit the school despite being present in the state when the gunmen carried out the attack.
