Drama as Edo gov-elect Okpebholo kneels to thank visiting Akpabio

A photo of Senator Monday Okpebholo – the Governor-elect of Edo State – kneeling down to express gratitude to Senate President Godswill Akpabio following his victory at last Saturday governorship election, has caused a stir on social media. 

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Sunday night, declared the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) Okpebholo as the winner of the governorship election held on Saturday, September 21.

According to the results declared by the electoral body, Okpebholo won the election by 291,667 votes, defeating his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo, candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), who polled a total of 247,274 votes.

The candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Olumide Akpata, came a third with a total of 22,763 votes.

Following his victory, Senator Okpebholo, in the photo that surfaced on social media, is seen on his knees thanking Akpabio, who was accompanied by Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu and some stakeholders in ruling party.

The photo has sparked mixed reactions amongst Nigerians on social media.
