EFCC Chair, Abdulrasheed Bawa, slumps in Aso Rock

  • Our Chairman is hale and hearty, says anti-graft agency

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa, on Thursday, slumped during a programme at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Bawa was addressing dignitaries at the event organised by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) meant for the celebration of National Identity day before the incident.

Specifically, Bawa was talking about a man the commission arrested in Ibadan, Oyo State, with 116 SIM cards when he suddenly slumped.

Bawa had stopped talking and covered his face with his right palm, saying, “Please, excuse me, I can’t continue.”

He was assisted to his seat by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Pantami and other senior officials at the event, but the anti-graft czar slumped on his seat, ad was immediately rushed out of the scene.

The Master of Ceremony (MC) later announced that the Bawa’s condition was stable.

“I am happy to announce to you that the EFCC Chairman is now stable,” he said.

But the chairman and those who rushed him out are yet to return to the hall as at time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, the anti-graft agency has said its chairman is hale and hearty, and Bawa will soon be back at his desk.

The Head of Media and Publicity, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, made the clarification in a statement in Abuja.

The statement reads: “The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Commission, (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa is hale and hearty.

*This clarification became necessary following an incident today September 16, 2021 at the Presidential Villa, Abuja where he was giving a goodwill message to the National Identity Day celebration, felt unwell and had to return to his seat.

“He has since received medical attention and is due back at his desk.”
