Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have arrested and paraded 13 suspects allegedly involved in cable vandalism, armed robbery, car theft and human trafficking across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and six other states.
The suspects were arrested by operatives of the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG’s SIS) during intelligence-driven operations conducted in the FCT, Nasarawa, Plateau, Kogi, Benue, Niger and Kaduna states.
The National Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC, Assistant Commandant Babawale Afolabi, disclosed this on Monday during a press parade at the Corps’ National Headquarters in Abuja and at a crime scene in Yangoji, Kwali Area Council of the FCT.
Afolabi said one of the major breakthroughs was the arrest of a 25-year-old former employee of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), Isaac Zegbe, who allegedly worked with accomplices to vandalise more than 15 kilometres of aluminium conductors along the Yangoji-Abaji axis.
According to him, the vandalised cables were valued at over N350 million and were subsequently distributed to suspected buyers and marketers across markets in the FCT.
He said NSCDC operatives, following targeted intelligence operations, recovered a significant quantity of the vandalised electrical cables at Gudu Market and arrested suspected receivers, including Chijoke Christian, who allegedly confessed to knowingly purchasing stolen cables.
The NSCDC spokesman added that the Corps had obtained a court order to seal the shops of merchants linked to the purchase of the stolen aluminium conductors.
He said the CG’s SIS also dismantled a four-man syndicate allegedly involved in the theft of Toyota vehicles across the FCT and neighbouring states.
The suspects were identified as Adamu Yusuf, Hassan Bukar, Adamu Musa, also known as “Yellow”, and Abdulsalam Isa, alias “Kada”.
Afolabi further disclosed that operatives arrested four suspected members of an armed robbery gang comprising Nuhu Ndam, Ponbin Lamkur, Yilcwat Sohdan and Ganpyal Dul.
Items recovered from the suspects included an AK-47 rifle with serial number 3152097, 16 rounds of 7.62x39mm live ammunition and N70,000 cash.
On human trafficking, the NSCDC spokesman said the CG’s SIS had recovered Micaiah Nana, the last of 16 children allegedly trafficked by Archibong Anderson on January 15, 2026.
He said persons, who allegedly purchased the child, have been taken into custody, and are assisting the agency with its investigation.
Other suspects arrested during the operations included Bilyaminu Musa and Abba Yusuf, who were allegedly involved in the vandalism of power cables within Abuja city centre.
The Corps also arrested Theophilus Oche Oboii over the alleged theft of 15 tractor batteries belonging to the National Agricultural Seeds Council in Kwali.
Afolabi said the suspect allegedly sold the batteries for N20,000 each.
Among the items recovered during the operations were a stolen Toyota Camry with registration number YAB 163 EE, cut armoured electrical cables, 15 tractor batteries, master keys, cutting tools, knives and a stolen travel bag containing clothing.
The NSCDC spokesman assured members of the public that the Corps would continue to intensify intelligence-led operations to protect Critical National Assets and Infrastructure and prevent criminal elements from using the FCT and other states as safe havens.
He said the suspects would be charged to court after the completion of investigations and where a prima facie case established.
