Abia police rescue doctor from kidnappers, nab PoS operator for receiving ransom

The police in Abia State have confirmed the rescue of a medical doctor from kidnappers, and arrested a Point of Sale (PoS) operator for allegedly receiving ransom money from the victim’s family.

The Commissioner of Police (CP), Wilfred Afolabi, disclosed this in Umuahia while briefing journalists on the achievements of the Command in under one month after his assumption of office.

He announced that the medical doctor, Ikenna Ilo, who was abducted on August 19, 2026, has been rescued by operatives leveraging actionable intelligence.

“Leveraging actionable intelligence, operatives of the Command were immediately deployed, and the movement of the vehicle was traced towards Imo State, prompting collaboration with the Imo State Police Command.”

The CP said that four suspects, including a PoS operator, have been arrested for dismantling the tracker in the victim’s car, and for receiving ransom money.

“Three other suspects who were involved in the dismantling of the tracker in the vehicle and the POS operators who received ransom are in our custody as an investigation is ongoing and efforts intensify to identify, apprehend and dismantle other members of the criminal syndicate.”

He said that under his watch as the Abia CP, many suspected criminals have been arrested with guns, ammunition and stolen items recovered from suspects.

He added that suspects were also arrested in various parts of Abia State for defilement, vandalism and other criminal activities, among other achievements.
