2027: PDP to engage INEC over omission of candidates’ names

The national leadership of Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) said on Sunday that it is engaging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to resolve all issues behind the omission of some of its candidates’ names from the final list released by the commission on Saturday.

The names of former Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, and Ladi Adebutu were omitted as PDP governorship candidates in Gombe and Ogun states, respectively.

Its National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, disclosed in a statement the party will ensure all issues are resolved in accordance with relevant laws.

Mohammed assured affected candidates and their supporters to remain calm, as the commission will publish their names for the election.

The statement read: “The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has noted with concern the omission of some of its candidates from the final list of candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“The party wishes to assure all affected candidates, members and supporters that it is already engaging with INEC to address the issues responsible for the omissions, with a view to securing an amicable resolution in accordance with the law and established electoral guidelines.

“The PDP therefore assures all concerned that it is treating this development with the utmost seriousness it deserves and will communicate further developments as appropriate.

“The Party is committed to ensuring that all legitimate concerns are properly addressed with the Commission.

“Consequently, the Party calls on all affected candidates, members and supporters to remain calm, exercise patience and refrain from actions or statements capable of undermining the ongoing engagements with the Commission,” the statement added.
