The presidential candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, on Thursday, visited with his major rival in the party’s primary, former Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
Atiku emerged winner of the recently concluded ADC primary, defeating Amaechi and businessman Mohammed Hayatu-Deen to secure the party’s presidential ticket.
Amaechi had rejected the outcome of the exercise even before the official declaration of results, alleging that the process was marred by irregularities.
But in his acceptance speech, Atiku appealed to Amaechi and other aggrieved members of the party to set aside their differences and unite ahead of the 2027 general election.
Details of Thursday’s meeting were still sketchy as of press time, with neither Atiku nor Amaechi addressing journalists on the outcome of the talks.
Party sources, however, indicated that the meeting may be part of ongoing efforts by Atiku to reconcile aggrieved stakeholders and secure Amaechi’s support ahead of the presidential poll.
