- Declares process unnecessary
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has waived presidential screening requirements for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the party’s forthcoming convention.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, following a meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC).
According to the statement, the decision was taken at the APC’s 188th NWC meeting held on May 6, 2026, in line with the powers granted to the committee under Article 13.4 (xiii) and (xiv) of the party’s constitution.
Morka explained that the waiver was granted in the party’s best interest, noting that Tinubu had already undergone screening during the 2022 presidential primaries.
“The National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC resolved to waive, and has waived, screening requirements for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and deemed him as duly screened for the purpose of participation in the upcoming primary elections,” the statement read.
The APC further cited what it described as “overwhelming endorsement” for Tinubu by key party stakeholders, including the Progressive Governors Forum, members of the National Assembly, and other party organs, particularly at the party’s National Summit held on May 22, 2025.
The statement added that, as the incumbent President and leader of the party, requiring Tinubu to appear before a screening committee again would be “redundant and unnecessary.”
