Africa’s football died tonight. And it was killed by mercantile administrators led by South African billionaire, Patrice Motsepe, who has been held ‘captive’ by the King of Morocco.
I think ECOWAS as a bloc should fight this. This is unheard of.
In fact since Motsepe became CAF president, he has adopted schemes to reduce the power of West Africa in the continent’s football.
Draws are made in such a way that strong West African countries are pitched against each other to eliminate themselves so that weaker teams from the Southern African region have a chance to qualify. It happens in both the men’s and women’s competitions.
So rather than postpone the 2026 WAFCON, which Morocco refused to host because they lost the AFCON to Senegal on the pitch, CAF should as well declare Morocco’s Lionesses the Champions without wasting other countries time and money.
