The police in Abia State have arrested a 68-year-old-woman, Mrs. Victoria Madubuko of Ndiambe Ozuitem in Bende LGA for allegedly flogging a 22-year-old girl, Nnenna Eke to death.
She reportedly committed the crime using a native cane known as “Okpete”, allegedly after an altercation.
The Commissioner of Police, Abia Command, CP Danladi Isa, confirmed this when he addressed journalists at the police headquarters, Umuahia.
He said that the victim, Nnenna Eke, fell sick as a result of the flogging and was taken to Tochi Hospital where she eventually died.
The CP, who said that the corpse of the 22-year-old girl has been deposited in a mortuary at Akaelu in Bende LGA, disclosed that the suspect, Mrs. Victoria Madubuko has been taken into custody, while investigation continues at State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Umuahia.
In a related incident, the CP said that a 31-year-old man, Chinonso Chukwuemeka from Abayi village was stabbed on the chest by a man known as Chimaobi Nwanne of the same address during a scuffle about a business transaction.
He said that the victim was rushed to Akachukwu Hospital Eastern Ngwa for medical attention but was confirmed dead by doctors.
The Commissioner of Police, who further said that the suspect, Chinonso Chukwuemeka fled to Umuezenta Mbasi village after committing the crime, revealed that he was nabbed by police officers from Eastern Ngwa Divisional Headquarters, adding that investigation is also ongoing.
