The Rivers State government has re-issued an approval allowing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to use the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in the capital Port Harcourt, to host its presidential campaign rally.
Governor Nyesom Wike announced the approval on Tuesday, during the PDP campaign rally in Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area.
The governor said the approval has been communicated to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP, following appeals by leaders.
The government, on January 31, withdrew the initial approval of February 11 granted for the presidential campaign rally, adding that it received credible intelligence that the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation was working in collaboration with the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
It alleged that the PDP campaign was intending to share the approved facility with the APC, whose activities, it claimed, are “characterised by violence.”
