WhatsApp has resolved to develop a new security mode aimed at protecting users from cyber-attacks, according to beta tracker WABetaInfo.
The feature, spotted in the latest iOS beta 25.33.10.70, will allow users to activate multiple advanced security settings simultaneously, simplifying account protection.
Once enabled, the strict security mode is expected to automatically lock down key privacy settings, including media sharing, call handling, and group invite permissions, setting them to their most secure options.
“Enabling the mode will likely automatically apply a series of restrictions aimed at keeping users’ accounts safe. These include blocking media and attachments from unknown senders, limiting who can call or message, and locking certain settings to prevent unauthorised changes. The company also warns that enabling the feature may reduce call and message quality,” WhatsApp wrote.
The feature will also improve management of messages from unknown or suspicious accounts, which are often a primary source of concern for users at risk of targeted attacks.
WhatsApp plans to test the feature in upcoming iOS beta releases before rolling it out to all users. This move comes as part of the platform’s ongoing efforts to strengthen privacy and security, particularly for individuals who may be more vulnerable to online threats.
