Victoria Aguiyi-Ironsi for burial Friday

The remains of Victoria, the wife of Nigeria’s first Head of State, Major General J. T. U Aguiyi Ironsi, will be buried on Friday, November 5, 2021, at her Umuahia country home in Abia State.

This was disclosed Wednesday by the first son of the Late Aguiyi-Ironsi and former Minister of Defence, Mr. Thompson Aguiyi-Ironsi

The former First Lady passed away in August, at the age of 97.

Her husband, Gen Thomas Umunnakwe Aguiyi-Ironsi, emerged Head of State and Supreme Commander of the National Military Government in the wake of the national chaos following the January 15, 1966 military coup.

He was killed on July 29,1966 during a counter coup.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has invited dignitaries to attend the funeral Service Mass in honour of the former First Lady on Friday, November 5, at Saint Theresa’s Catholic Church, Afaraukwu Ibeku in Umuahia North Local Government Area.

A statement by the Secretary to Abia State Government (SSG), Mr. Chris Ezem, on Wednesday said, Ikpeazu extended invitation the following persons for the funeral service. They are Deputy Governor, Speaker of State House of Assembly, members of the House of Assembly, the Chief Judge, President, Customary Court of Appeal and security service chiefs.

Others are the Head of Service, Commissioners, chairmen of the 17 local government areas of the State, political stakeholders, Service Chiefs, traditional rulers, elder statesmen and media practitioners.

Ezem further emphasized that all COVID-19 protocols will be strictly observed.
