UniAbuja introduces mandatory drug test for students

Management of the University of Abuja has introduced a compulsory drug test as part of the regular medical screening for students, aimed at addressing substance abuse concerns on campus.

The institution’s head of the University Health Services (UHS), Professor Abdulkabir Ayanniyi, disclosed that all students are required to present a drug test report, validated by a reputable laboratory’s chemical pathologist or toxicologist, during their routine medical screening.

Ayanniyi emphasized that the drug test is an integral addition to the existing medical screening process, and reflects the management’s dedication to safeguarding the University of Abuja campus from the adverse effects of substance abuse.

A statement to that effect read: “This proactive measure aims to promote a safe and conducive learning environment for all students.”

The management also urged students to furnish their drug test results to the UHS not later than Tuesday, 1st August, 2023, as part of the documentation process.

“By complying with this new policy, the University community can work together towards fostering a healthier and more responsible student body,” it said.
