Uncertainty over alleged invasion of Justice Mary Odili’s home by security agents

Some security operatives – on a mission yet to be disclosed – reportedly invaded the Abuja residence of the former governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili and his Supreme Court Justice wife, Mary, in Maitama, on Friday evening.

The security agents reportedly arrived at the residence around 5pm, but were prevented from accessing the property by a team of security personnel stationed in the house.

It was gathered that the security team at the house, comprising the Department of State Security (DSS) and the police, turned back the visiting security personnel, apparently not having a prior notice of their mission.

It was also not clear who in particular the visiting security personnel were looking for – the former governor or the Supreme Court Justice.

Although it was initially thought to be a joint operation between the DSS and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the latter has since denied its involvement.

While no word has been heard from the DSS, the EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, said: “The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has been drawn to claims in a section of the media that operatives of the Commission today, October 29, 2021 stormed the Maitama, Abuja home of a Judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Mary Odili, purportedly to execute a search.

“The commission by this statement wishes to inform the public that the report is false as it did not carry out any operation at the home of Justice Odili.

“If there was any such operation as claimed by the media, it was not carried out by the EFCC.

“The commission enjoins the public to discountenance the report.”

Meanwhile, Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, on Friday night, paid a solidarity visited to the Odilis in their Abuja home.
