The United Kingdom (UK) government has reacted to the killing of its citizen in the recent attack on Kajuru, Kaduna State.
The Police in Kaduna identified the expatriate killed by suspected kidnappers as Miss Faye Mooney, a Briton.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Yakubu Sabo, said Mooney was among the two people killed and three kidnapped on April 19 at a recreational resort in Kajuru Local Government Area of the State.
In a reaction on its official Twitter handle @UkinNigeria, the UK government said it was aware of the tragic incident, adding that the next-of-kin to the deceased has been notified.
The tweet reads: “We are aware of the tragic incident involving the death of a British national in Kaduna State on Friday. The next-of-kin has been notified.
“The British High Commission offers our most profound sympathies and condolences to the families and friends at this difficult time.”
Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, in a tweet on Monday, condemned the attack and commiserated with the United Kingdom and Mercy Corps over the death of the aid worker.
He tweeted: “My heartfelt prayers go out to all the families affected by Friday’s attack on the Kajuru Castle resort in Kaduna.
“My deep condolences to the government of the United Kingdom and Mercy Corps, over the death of the British Aid worker, Faye Mooney, who was killed in the attack.
“It is my fervent hope that our security officials do everything in their power to rescue those that were abducted in Friday’s attack —so that they can be reunited with their loved ones as soon as possible.”
In his own reaction, former vice president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar said the killing of the UK aid worker is not a true reflection of the Nigeria’s character, but the handiwork of criminals.
Atiku said: “I want the government and people of the United Kingdom to know that these atrocious actions do not reflect Nigeria’s national character.”
Mooney’s Nigerian boyfriend, Mathew Oguche, was also killed by kidnappers.
“I condemn the killing of British aid worker, Faye Mooney, and her Nigerian partner, Mathew Oguche two days ago in Kaduna State. Several other Nigerians were kidnapped during the episode.”
He urged the Federal government to crack down on the culprits of the attacks and stop the killings else it loses international friends, partners and investors.
“Nigeria must once again become synonymous with peace, progress and prosperity. This can only happen when crime and punishment are a natural cause and effect,” Atiku said.
