Udensi knocks Abia govt over infrastructure deficit

* Says Abia only State in SE, SS without airport

A frontline politician and philanthropist, Sir Chikwe Udensi, has decried the level of infrastructure in State of Abia, wondering what could be amiss.

The security expert had also recently scored the governments of the five South-east states low on security, insisting that the governors could do better in securing the region.

And specifically for his home State, Chief Udensi expressed angst that Abia lags behind all the other states in the South-east and South-south regions.

He said: “Almost all the states in the South-east and South-south have airports; but regrettably Abia is nowhere near its counterparts in infrastructural development.”

The states with airports in the South-east region include Anambra (recently completed), Enugu and Imo. Ebonyi airport project is under construction, while Abia has none. It is not even on the drawing board of the government.

In the South-south region, all the six state have airports of their own. They are Akwa Ibom (Uyo), Bayelsa (recently completed in Yenegoa), Cross River (Calabar), Delta (Asaba), Edo (Benin City), and Rivers (Port Harcourt).

Chief Udensi commended Anambra, Ebonyi and Enugu State governors for the amount of infrastructure they have provided in their respective states in the last six years.

For Abia, however, Udensi knocked the government over its inability to complete a project such as the flyover bridge at Osisioma in the suburb of Aba.

He thus challenged Governor Okezie Ikpeazu to do the needful in the area of security, not forgetting to execute a “legacy project” before leaving office in 2023.
