Two police officers killed, one injured in Bauchi ambush

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that two officers were killed and another injured after a joint patrol team came under attack in Sabon Sara Village, Bauchi State, on Saturday.

Police spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, announced the incident in a statement on X, explaining that the officers were deployed as part of a multi-unit operation involving the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Police Mobile Force (PMF), and the State Intelligence Department (SID).

According to Hundeyin, the security team had embarked on a routine confidence-building operation when they were ambushed.

He wrote: “In keeping with our mandate of protecting Nigerians, a combined team of Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Police Mobile Force (PMF), and State Intelligence Department (SID) embarked on a visibility patrol earlier today to boost the confidence of locals in Sabon Sara Village, Bauchi State. Sadly, the team came under attack, leading to the loss of two police officers and injury to one other.”

Hundeyin added that the police are already taking coordinated steps to track down the perpetrators.

“Concerted efforts are underway to apprehend the attackers,” he said.

The Force also assured the public of its continued commitment to national security despite the tragic loss.

“We assure Nigerians that as we mourn our men who have paid the supreme price in the discharge of their lawful duties, we remain steadfast and resolute in achieving our mandate of protecting all Nigerians,” Hundeyin stated.
