Like a thief in the night, death sneaked into the household of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and snatched his first son Jide.
Jide was a law graduate of the University of Liverpool, England.
He obtained a Masters degree in Maritime Law from the University of London and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1999.
He served as Promoter of TSL Limited and also worked in the Legal Department of Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited from January 2000 to September 2001.
He had brief stints with Cargo Maritime in Paris, France, a firm of shipbrokers that specializes in petroleum product tankers, and Ocean and Oil Services Ltd.
Lagos state APC chairman, Otunba Henry Ajomale, confirmed the development through a letter he wrote to members on Wednesday:
“Dear Members,
It’s with regrets that I inform you of the demise of Mr. Jide Tinubu, the son of our dear and esteemed leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Please commiserate with him. Thank you…”
Meanwhile, condolences have continued to pour into the Tinubu household over their loss.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has commiserated with Tinubu.
His condolence message was conveyed in a statement he personally signed on Wednesday evening. He wrote:
“I commiserate with our National Leader, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the demise of his son Jide.”
Continuing, Dogara wrote: “I was shocked to receive the sad news of the sudden death of Deji Tinubu.
“The late Jide was a lawyer of high repute who cut his teeth in the maritime sector and was hardworking and enterprising.
“It is saddening that a father buries his son. I can only imagine your pain and grief at this time.
“I pray God almighty to grant you and your family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”
On his part, Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, also condoled with Asiwaju Tinubu, over what he called the depressing news of the death of his son, Jide.
In a statement by his Special Adviser, Communication and Strategy, Mr. Yomi Layinka, the governor expressed regrets that the cold hands of death have snatched another promising and ebullient young man.
Ajimobi described the sudden death of the APC national leader’s son as not only shocking, but also unfortunate and disheartening.
The governor said: “My dear Asiwaju, please accept my heartfelt condolences. On behalf of myself, family and the good people of Oyo State, I pray that God will give you the strength and courage to bear this monumental loss.
“My thoughts and prayers are with you in this trying period. With Jide’s death, the country has lost another shining star and future leader. May the Almighty comfort his wife, children and the entire family.”
