A school teacher in Ghana has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for allegedly raping a teenage girl.
The suspect identified as Ernest Ocloo reportedly penetrated the young girl inside the staff room of a Sawla Senior High School (SHS), where he teaches.
Reports claim the teacher had made several advances to the victim, which she reportedly turned down.
In the instant case, Ocloo was said to have invited the student to the staff room on the day he assaulted her.
The victim, according to reports, met him sitting on a sofa in the staff common room, and when he invited her to join him on the sofa, she refused. The convict then offered the victim Yoghurt and Shito but she rejected the gifts.
He went ahead to propose love to her, which she also turned down.
The victim was reportedly about to leave the staff common room when the convict stood up and locked the door.
He allegedly held her and started fondling her breast.
She was said to have struggled with him but he overpowered her and forcibly put her on the floor, undressed her and perpetrated her.
The victim shouted for help but no one heard her.
A seven-member jury found Ocloo guilty of the offence after more than a year of trial before a Tamale High Court.
He was thereby sentenced to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour, two years after being dismissed over the act which, occurred in November 2019 at Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of Savannah Region.
The victim, due to the forceful penetration, could neither stand nor walk amidst excruciating stomach ache.
Her situation was said to have deteriorated and was later taken to Sawla Hospital, where she was treated for days.
Meanwhile, Ocloo had argued at the court that they had consensual sex and the student passed out as a result of the excitement.
