Suspected Fulani herdsmen raid Benue communities, kill Catechist, 5 others

Five persons, including the Catholic Catechist of Udei Parish, in Udei Deanery identified as Daniel Moji, have been reported killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen in two separate attacks in Guma, Benue State.

One person was murdered in Agatu community.

The Catechist’s wife was brutally hacked by the herdsmen, and she is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

Confirming the attack on Hirnyam and Ortom villages, Christopher Waku, the Security Adviser of Guma LGA who spoke to newsmen on behalf of the council chairman, Mike Aba on Sunday, said that five persons were killed in the two separate attacks.

“It is true that some armed herdsmen attacked two communities in our local government on Friday and Saturday. Four people were killed including a Catechist in Hirnyam village on Friday while one person was killed in Ortom’s village near Gbajimg alt=’Catechist and five others killed as suspected herdsmen attack Benue communities’ class=’img-responsive text-center’ style=’margin: auto;’ba, headquarters of Guma LGA.

Also confirming Agatu attack,Cchairman of the council, Joseph Ngbede, also confirmed the Agatu attack to newsmen on Sunday.

“There was an attack at Oshigbudu community on Friday and we recorded one casualty. The attack was carried out by armed Fulani herdsmen who also blocked the roads, robbing people of their motorcycles,” Ngbede said.
