Gunmen suspected to be cultists, on Tuesday, abducted five students of the Rivers State University, Nkpolu-Oroworukwu, Port Harcourt, at their residence in Emuoha Local Government Area.
The spokesperson for the State police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident to journalists in Port Harcourt.
She said the armed men shot sporadically before they whisked the victims away to an unknown location.
The spokesperson added that efforts to rescue the students are ongoing.
Iringe-Koko said: “In the early hours of Tuesday, a group of cultists numbering five stormed an isolated area of Rumuchi/Rumuohia, shot and abducted five persons to an unknown destination.
“Efforts to rescue the victims are ongoing. As I speak, the Commissioner of Police has gone there with tactical teams to ensure they regain their freedom.”
