Soludo confirms Anambra ex-Gov Obiano alive, kicking

Anambra State governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, has confirmed that his predecessor in office, Chief Willie Obiano, is alive and well, thus dispelling the swirling death rumour.

Soludo’s confirmation came against the backdrop of rumours in some sections of the media – especially the social media – that Obiano had passed away in a London hospital.

The governor said he spoke to Chief Obiano, affirming that the former governor is alive and well.

Soludo viewed with “grave concern the reckless dissemination of malicious rumours as wicked and irresponsible”.

He enjoined media practitioners, especially online publishers, to uphold the ethics of journalism by verifying information through official channels before publication.

“The spread of unverified death rumour is not only wicked and irresponsible but also erodes public trust.

“Therefore, the government urges the general public to disregard the trending rumour, rest assured that the former governor is alive, hale and hearty,” he said.

Soludo wished Chief Willie Obiano continued strength, peace, and a long, healthy life of fulfilment in his abode.
