A Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, has dissolved a six-year-old marriage of a civil servant, Adedoyin Ayilola, on the ground of abandonment by her husband.
In her petition, Mrs. Ayilola, who works in Abeokuta, also accused her husband of starving her sexually.
Delivering judgment, the President of the court, Ademola Odunade, pronounced the marriage dissolved.
Mr. Odunade granted custody of their only child to Ayilola and ordered Ayoade to pay N5,000 as monthly child support allowance.
In her petition, she said: “My lord, Ayoade abandoned me to my fate when I took ill. He avoided touching me when I needed love.
“He sleeps in the living room and never cares about me. He is not a reliable partner.”
The spouse consented to the divorce and did not deny the allegation leveled against him.
“I stopped going near her because I was equally not feeling well at the time.
“Because of her illness, too, I did not want to disturb her. She sent me a text message telling me that she was no longer interested in the marriage,” the husband said.
