The Sokoto State government has appealed to the Federal government to restore telecommunication services in areas experiencing banditry in the State.
Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal made the appeal while receiving the governors of Borno and Gombe states, Babagana Zulum and Muhammad Yahaya, who represented governors of North east geopolitical zone during a condolence visit to the state over the recent market attacks.
The attacks resulted in the loss of several lives while several others were injured.
Tambuwal said the decision to seek restoration of telecom services was taken at the enlarged security meeting of the State.
“The call for the rescinding of the blockade became necessary in view of concerns expressed by security outfits in the State, that the outage is affecting the smooth performance of their duties.
“We have already forwarded a letter to the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy to review the internet blockade,” Tambuwal said.
The governors, in sympathy, donated N20million to Sokoto State government over the Goronyo attack.
The governors also visited the UK Jarma Academy, where 169 children orphaned by Boko Haram in the North-east are being raised.
Tambuwal noted that the visit was a soothing balm to victims and the entire people of Sokoto State.
He described the visit as a clear manifestation of love and brotherhood between the North east and the North-west.
